Value for money is another common favorite, with prices ranging from $20 to $30 for hearty offerings. The warm and friendly service also makes patrons feel welcomed and appreciated, enhancing the overall dining experience.
Some patrons mention that the chip portions feel on the smaller side compared to other places. While the quality of the chips is never in question, larger appetites might leave wanting more.

While many appreciate the menu variety, a longing for more creative vegetarian options has surfaced. Diners looking for a broader selection may find the current offerings a bit limited.
Every time I have had the Fish it has been amazing, fresh and well sized. The cheese bites are epic and the option of lard or cooking oil is awesome and unique to this place. Go maybe once or twice per month and its good every time. Service is always good.
Consistently great, tasty fish and chips, crispy batter. Good value too. Classic kiwi fish and chip shop!
Constantly great fish and chips , friendly service
Very nice fish n chips. The chip portions are a little small compared to others but the quality makes up for it. Have tried a few times now since reopening and has always been a great experience. Thank you
Just had a fish burger, chips and hot dog. Delicious and fresh and a decent amount of chips. Choice!
What a wonderful surprise!! I have not had such BEAUTIFUL fish and chips since....well, since I don't know when! You may be like me and find fish and chips are invariably a disappointment....they look good, they smell good, but the taste is anything but. So we usually bypass the fish and chip shop. But a spur of the moment decision saw us devovouring the yummiest takeaways we have had for a long, long time. They were hot and crispy, not soggy or fatty. The fish was a generous portion of bluenose, and cooked perfectly. YUM! Well done Black Cat Takeaways, your staff are to be commended. We'll be back!!
Fantastic Ragamuffin burger, very tasty, fish was very moist, not fatty this was juicy and the chips were great crunchy outside and soft inside, highly recommended you try them, first time I’ve been there, next time I’m in Nelson I will be back. Cheer’s, Wes.
Don't miss out on their amazing fish and chips—the fish of the day is often impressive. I recommend trying the burgers and cheese bites as well, they are a crowd favorite.
